Faith Like A Child

Working as a nanny with two children both under the age of 5, has helped me to come to a deep revelation about what it really means to have faith like a child.

Matthew 18:3 (AMP)

Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all].

Have you ever tried to tell a child something that may be different to what their mum or dad may have told them ? Have you ever tried to convince a child to do/not to do something contrary to what has previously been said by their parents ? Whether it be whether santa claus is real, or whether or not wearing ballet shoes to nursery is acceptable ! There is no getting through to them. They may in the end obey your request, but always with much reluctance followed by the response, ‘But my mum said…’ or ‘I’m going to ask my mum and see what she says’. In a child’s eyes, their parents word is like the gospel, they can not possibly be wrong. Do you ever remember being a child and someone telling you something different to what your mum or dad told you, and fighting your case til’ the end just because your mum told you so, even if you knew nothing about what you were saying ?

In Matthew 18, it is requested of us that we likewise have a similar faith. A child has no understanding of the world, and clings to and depends on every word from their parents, for their understanding and expectations. In order to have this level of humility we must erase and let go of all that we think we know about everything (past, present, future, goals, desires & our will) and literally cling to every word of God. It IS the gospel, so we have to treat it like it is. So when your tutor tells you, you cant do this or be that, you have to cling to the word of God and tell them, ‘But my GOD said I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and nothing shall be impossible for me’. When the doctor gives you a hopeless diagnosis you tell them, ‘Thank you for your expertise, but my GOD says he will keep me healthy, I will be like a well watered garden and ever-flowing spring ‘. When the devil condemns you and tells you God will never use you, you stand in your authority and tell him ‘My GOD said, there is no condemnation to those who are in him & nothing can separate me from his love. Eyes have not seen, nor ears heard, nor has it sunken into the heart of man what God has prepared for me because I love him !’. Let Gods word be truth and every other word a lie. Who’s report will you believe ?

Have a faith in his word that can not be moved, but most importantly have faith in HIM and who he is. If a child can have faith in a mere mortal human, that everything they say is true and will happen as so, how much more faith should we have in the Lord of Lords, Alpha and Omega, the God who never fails, that he will do what he says he will do. People might think your crazy, but in the end its your faith that will move God. Get plugged into what your father is saying concerning your life. In his word are the solutions for every burden and every confusion. Here’s to trusting our heavenly father from this point on 🙂

  1. Little children also teach us to trust in our Heavenly Father. When bad things happen they are not afraid as long as their parents are by their side. When we have troubles and problems we don’t have to be afraid or nervous because God is always by our side and assures us with His love.
May God continue to bless you!
